Storm
Sunlight falls across the beach
Expanse of sparkling sand
Waves lap at the shore, persistently
As if coming with some message...
The voices are long gone
Footprints washed away by years of rain
Gone...I cannot bring them back
Nor can I save myself.
Storm coming, dark clouds across the water
Wild winds whip at my hair
Closing my eyes, I stand alone
Waves grow higher, rain lashing sand
A lighthouse, too far away...
Water higher now, around my face
Too late...I sink to the bottom
My hair floating behind me
Like some fairy-spun web
My voice now gone, footprints erased
By the rain.
